Born in Bari April 8, 1964. My father Ignazio was a traditional Primary Care Physician for over 60 years and passed down on me the attention to a humane and professional approach to the patient.

Certificate of Proficiency in English of Cambridge University in June 1982.

Medical Doctor Degree in Bari 03/24/1989 with grades 110/110, medical licensing examination in Bari first session of 1989, Post-Graduate Diploma in General Surgery with grades 50/50 cum laude in Bari 07/05/1994.

U.S. Medical Licensing examinations in 1991 and 1993: ECFMG test in Rome, Italy, and FLEX in Philadelphia, PA, U.S.A.

From 1993 to 1995: General Surgery Resident in Charlottesville, VA, (University of Virginia Hospital), and Salem, VA (Veterans Hospital), where my main mentor was Prof. Bruce D. Schirmer former Director of the American Board of Surgery, president of SAGES and the American HPB Association. Such training, typical of the U.S. system, allowed me to acquire a significant professional self-reliance, a first-hand exposure to clinical responsibilities and a precious practical experience through rotations in different wards.

1995 A.C.L.S. Certification at George Washington University, Washington, DC.

1992 and 1995 Educational Programs of the American College of Colon and Rectal Surgeons.

2001 Diplome d’Universitè de Chirurgie Laparoscopique e Toracoscopique at I.R.C.A.D. Institute of the University of Strasbourg, France, where I have annually attended theoretical – practical courses in laparoscopic surgery from 2002 to 2006.

2003 Residential course “Laparoscopic Surgical Week Full Immersion” under the direction of Prof. F. Corcione, past-president of S.I.C., at Ospedale Monaldi in Naples, Italy.

1997 – 2000 General Surgery and Thoracic Unit, Hospital IRCCS “Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza” in San Giovanni Rotondo, FG, where I was exposed to a wide range of complex diseases in one of the major referral centers in the country.

2000 – 2021 attending physician in the General Surgery Unit, Hospital “V. Emanuele II” in Bisceglie (BT).

Since 2022 attending physician in the General Surgery Unit of the Private Hospital Mater Dei in Bari. I am a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a regular member of the ACS – Italy chapter, the University of Virginia Alumni Association.
